WHY IS MY HAIR SO DAMAGED?

Frizzy brassy hair? It isn't the highlights, the color, the shampoo, or the conditioner.

In Salon Hard water and Well Water Damage Treatments

Hair treatments are the fastest way to undo the damage of intrusive compounds that find their way into the cuticle of the hair.

My water was making my hair feel dry and stiff. It kept snapping off as split ends and would not grow!  Now more than 15 years later I figured out the reason why my hair was getting worse and worse over time - Unfortunately water that we wash our hair with puts tiny sediment or ph altering particles inside the cuticle and makes it feel rough or snap off. It can even cause problems the next time we color and color our hair.

COPPER IN HAIR

Blue, Green, Or aqua corrosion on shower floor, tub, toilet or sink. continuously darkens highlights or bleached hair & makes it look lifeless. And will look and feel like it needs to be cut. Contributes to it feeling dry.

IRON IN HAIR

Orange, Pink, rust-colored, or Grey corrosion in shower, tub, or basin. - Makes highlights turn orange, and feel dry. Hair will appear darker and brassier in color.

CHLORINE IN HAIR

Feels slimy and will detangle in the water while wet but gets oddly shiny when it's dry. Looks and feels like Barbie hair. It creates darkening in highlights and bleached hair. Most often from swimming pools, water parks, or water from facilities where water maintenance should need to stop the spread of diseases, viruses and fungus. Not always though! It won’t leave the hair, even if you only swim or put your head under the water a few times every summer.

Chemical reactions during chemical processing.

About Well water, city water, and chemical reactions with bleach lightener or peroxide:

Have you ever seen hair get hot, steam, and melt inside of highlighting foils? I have! Not only does mineral buildup affect the color and health of hair, it can also cause a bad chemical reaction when color or highlight formula is applied. This reaction can damage hair, and in some cases of heavy buildup, the hair will melt. Even an experienced and honest hair stylist can be confused by water mineral buildup and will pass it off as only dry split ends. If you are concerned about your hair health, talk about your water during a consultation, or before color or any chemical processing. I will have suggestions and treatments available to prevent bad reactions if I find buildup in your hair when you arrive.

People from Havre De Grace, Aberdeen, and Fallston come in saying that their hair turns dark orange, green, or red colors, or becomes brassy after highlights and bleach processes. If you have struggles like this, what you are experiencing is real. I can solve your problems here at Vibrance Hair Studio.

Aside from water at your home, showers and pools at camping retreats are two types of facilities that make hair completely unmanageable and impossible to comb. Even if you haven’t been there in 12 months, that buildup will stay in your hair.

There are a few places in Harford County that have a lot of particles in water for different reasons. Where there is well water, there is always some kind of issue - that can be solved. A lot of times houses in Fallston have well water that gets mixed in to soften it. Either the ground water sediment gets in the hair, or the purification process adds compounds to the water during a ph balancing process.

Things that enter the cuticle of the hair cause a lot of tangling, make the scalp oily, and it also causes hair to turn darken orangeish or swampy greenish. If the problem is left untreated the hair becomes heavier, and more shampoo is needed for it to create suds.

I always ask clients if they live in Havre de Grace because the water system in the area needs to be updated. It is hard to say the quality of the water when it comes out of your faucet because there are different ages and types of pipes it goes through too get to you!

Paired with a trim or haircut, Hard Water, Well Water, and Chlorine removal treatments will allow us to make your hair healthier, make it soft again, stop it from splitting, keep it easy to comb, restore the texture, and even out the color.... with the option to cut less hair off after the treatment. It's actually a bit magical. I would like to talk to you about how to prevent future buildup after we remove any that is causing your hair problems.

Growing long hair?

Sometimes washing hair even just once on vacation in a place with harsh water can affect your hair until the problematic part is cut off, or removed with a Hardwater, Wellwater, or Chlorine Treatment.

-A combination of mineral buildup and heat can cause a bad chemical reaction happening inside the cuticles of your hair.

-Even without heat, your hair can be continuously stressed from holding metals and minerals from water and pipes.

-If you already have buildup in your hair -  metal-removing hair treatments, chlorine removing hair products, or a haircut are likely your only chance of being able to put your fingers through soft hair.  Healthier hair can be achieved and maintained mostly by using water filters, then treatments and special shampoos if the water is relentless.

If you are trying to grow your hair, or make it feel softer and healthier, a treatment and hair washing regimen at Vibrance Hair Studio will help your hair stay healthy and soft.
